With longstanding roots in the Pacific Northwest, Teck’s U.S. subsidiary Teck American Incorporated (TAI), headquartered in Spokane, Washington has made several contributions recently to organizations and entities in Northeastern Washington. The following are recent examples of Teck’s commitment to caring for the needs of the community.

Taryn White, TAI Legal Secretary; Donna Drake, TAI Environmental Department Assistant; Kris McCaig, TAI Vice President, Environment; and Joe Sams, TAI Information Systems Manager with family members. On October 27, 2022, TAI employees and family members joined the Family Promise of Spokane’s homecoming event to help increase community awareness of the challenges facing vulnerable families and generate funding support to create solutions. TAI sponsored as a Table Captain. The event was lots of fun and raised over $195,000!
Stephani Smith, N.E.W. Hunger Coalition Director with Kris McCaig, TAI Vice President, Environment, and Cristy Kessel, TAI Environmental Specialist This October, TAI donated $4,000 to the N.E.W. Hunger Coalition, a collaborative network of seventeen food banks and nine community partners in rural Northeastern Washington working to solve the problem of hunger throughout Northeastern Washington. Donations to the N.E.W. Hunger Coalition give food bank members the collaborative space, resources, and connections they need to do their jobs better and more efficiently, so they can impact their communities and clients. It also builds a local food system by paying local farmers for produce through its Farm to Food Pantry (F2FP) Program and then pick up and deliver that produce to all food pantries with their innovative CoolPup Trailers.
Josh and Jane Chambers of the Grant County Fire District #7 pictured with Donna Drake, TAI Environment Department Assistant and Kris McCaig, TAI Vice President, Environment TAI recently donated $20,000 to the Grant County Fire District #7 to replace a water tender truck damaged during a wildfire in June 2022. Grant County Fire District #7 is in the North Central area of Grant County, Washington, and provides fire protection and emergency medical services to Soap Lake, Lakeview, Sun Lakes State Park, and along the Coulee Corridor for more than 4,200 full-time residents and thousands of visitors during the summer months. TAI’s contribution will help make sure Grant County Fire District #7 has the resources needed for the safety and protection of the community. “I can’t express my gratitude enough for [Teck American’s] commitment to our community and helping us to make sure we have the resources we need,” said GCFD7 Administrator Josh Chambers.
TAI Vice President, Environment, Kris McCaig, presents check to Harrington Library Board member Stacey Rasmussen The Harrington Public Library in Lincoln County serves a community of about four hundred patrons. According to The Record Times, the library is the only one in Washington State without an electronic catalogue system, which will require the purchase of a computer and a scanner. The Board is also looking for funding to purchase computers for patrons who need to access the internet. The library applied for and is receiving a state grant to cover some of these important purchases. TAI learned of the library’s needs and reached out to the Board to ask how it may help. As a result, TAI donated $1,000 to the Harrington Public Library to use at its own discretion with the goal that it is used to help transform the library into a community hub of activities that will benefit its patrons.
TAI employees and their families help with river cleanup A team of TAI employees and their families joined an event hosted by the Spokane River Forum and Spokane Riverkeepers on Saturday, April 23, 2022, to remove refuse from the banks of the Spokane River, helping keep the river as a clean and healthy habitat and community resource. Over 4,000 pounds of trash were removed by all the volunteers that day.
Donna Drake, TAI Environmental Department Assistant, helped deliver presents to Ellaine Taniguchi with St. Margaret’s Christmas Blessings program. St. Margaret’s Shelter in Spokane provides emergency and transitional shelter to promote positive life changes in a supportive, short-term environment. The holiday season is one of the most difficult times for these families as they try to stabilize their housing. This year TAI was delighted to support St. Margaret’s Christmas Blessings Program. Employees “adopted” three families, with every single child receiving everything on their wish list. The Assistant Director of St. Margaret’s Shelter, Heather Eddy, said TAI’s kindness and generosity meant so much to them.
